Over Import of Fish and Shellfish

US seafood imports are the
highest they’ve ever been. Due to our growing
population, food demand would increase
naturally. However, compared to other imports of
meats, fruits, grains, and dairy, fish and shellfish are the highest.

In 1999, fish and shellfish imports were about 8,000-9,000.
In 2017, that number rose to 20,000. This type of unecessary
seafood demand only encourages the US’ food waste behavior.
